[Pre-180, My SJI Days, Be a Food Blogger] Insadong Korea Food Town @ Sentosa

Throwback to those days where I used to go around searching for SEOULfood to eat with my SJI Korea Club friends. One of the places we tried out was Insadong Korea Town at Sentosa, which turned out to be quite a good hangout location for us students. I went with 8 other friends that day, so just in case you're wondering, the location is quite ideal for a good-sized gathering.

Insadong Korea Town, or what I call a mega Korean-fusion food court, houses way more authentic and modern Korean fusion food than anyone could've thought of. Ranging from 'traditional' dishes like the dolsot bibimbap to a handful of sticks of SPAM luncheon meat to even cheesy cutlet rice, the Korea Town has it all.

But before I get to the food, I must say that the themed food court looked well designed. Having been to Insadong before, the exterior had the artistic zest of Insadong.

The interior of the Korea Town looked good too. Stalls were designed to look like traditional Hanok, and one could even see Korean street food carts situated in the centre of the food court. Pretty nice.

And now to the ordering. Insadong Korea Town uses self-ordering kiosks, so you could see us frantically (Ps: We're not technologically savvy. :D) taking turns to order our food without clogging the machine and the queue behind us. As they were more than 200 food choices available, (oauthentic Korean, Korean-Chinese, Korean-Western, Korean-Japanese cuisine and street food) it might be better if you made up your mind on what to eat even before you order at the kiosk. :D

As there were 9 of us that day, we ordered quite a bit of food. For a feel, we ordered:

1) Ttebokki (Rice cake) with SPAM/Crabmeat sticks

2) Jjangmyeon (Noodles in black sauce)

3) Dolsot Bibimbap (Mixed rice in a hotpot)

4)Cheesy Chicken Cutlet Rice

5) Curry Cutlet (with rice)

6) Bulgogi Beef (with rice)

7) Kimchi Soup/ Kimchi Jjigae

8) Naengmyeon (Cold Buckweed Noodles)

9) Sotong Rice with Egg (the dish looked pretty Tze-Char-like, I'm not too sure why they offer the dish, but well, the more choices, the merrier).

10) Mandu (Korean minced meat dumplings)

Food portions were comfortable. Taste-wise, all of us had no complaints about the food. I ate the both the mandu and the bibimbap. The bibimbap tasted quite normal, though there wasn't a special kick to it. The mandu was fine. On the whole, we had a good time.

To top off our food, we ordered 3 bingsus (Strawberry, Mango and Mixed flavours) to share as desserts. While the bingsus looked aesthetically appealing, the ice wasn't well-shaved. To be honest, it was quite hard, and the fruit toppings tasted a little sour. It would be great if we had some condensed milk to go with the bingsu, as eating the fruits and ice alone is way too bland. I believe that Korea Town's bingsus are way overpriced at SGD$12 each.

(Ps: Sorry for the state of the strawberry bingsu. Someone ate the cherry off  even before we could grab a photograph of it! :) )

[Conclusion]: Had a fun dining experience at Korea Town. It should be quite a good place for friends to get together, but not a fantastic place to go if you want to try out more Korean food. Heard that their Mandu in Kimchi soup is good. Didn't get to try them this time round. Might be back for that if I happened to pass by Sentosa. :)
