Our KCC friends had always been interested about trying on the legendary Hanbok--or what is known as the traditional Korean costume. We'd always been wanting to take a group photograph of us dressed in the colourful traditional Jeogori (upper shirt) and Chima (skirt for women), and Baji (pants for men).

However, due to budget constraints, we haven't been able to do a proper Hanbok photoshoot....Until in April 2014, when we found out that Korea Plaza (i.e. the Korea Tourism Organisation (KTO) office) in Singapore, offers free Hanbok trying sessions. :)
As such, after much anticipation, we finally went to Korea Plaza over at Church Street, Samsung Hub to try on the traditional Korean Clothings (Hanbok). As we reached, the friendly KTO personnel, Hana-ssi, came over with zest to help us with our hanbok photography.
The Korean Clothing ranges all the way from modernised ones, like what me and Jana were wearing to the more traditional type like what Huay Yi and Kage was wearing, the palace types as seen from what Iswarya and Ruo Xuan. (*see photograph above) Not to forget, male versions of Hanbok is also available, and our Shaun ‘oppa’ (big brother) was actually wearing one of them at the shoot (of course!).

Doing the iconic heart shape sign with Ruo Xuan :D |
To my pleasant surprise, not only did the Plaza offer free trying of Hanbok, it also had a fair bit of Korean Food Samples on Exhibitions. There were many delicacies such as the Gujeolpan (Vegetable Platter), Bossam (Steamed Pork and Vegetables) and Hwayang jeok (Skewered Pancakes) that we did not know of apart from the usual dishes such as Kimchi, Bibimbap (Korean Mixed Rice) and Kimbap (Korean Sushi).

Gujeolpan food sample :D The gujeolpan is a dish consisting of 8 or 9 different foods neatly placed on a wooden plate that is divided into sections. |
A food sample of Sinseollo, an elaborate dish that consists of mainly meatballs, mushrooms and vegetables cooked in a rich brotth. It was known as one of the famous dishes in the Korean Royal Palace. |
Beoseot Jeongol is a Korean hotpot dish, or to be specific, the Korean mushroom hotpot. Cooked with mushrooms such as the netari, ssari, pyogo and songi mushrooms, the dish is known for is unique scent and refreshing taste.

Baekseolgi, the traditional Korean rice cake. They looked extremely cute when tied into little 'parcels'! :D |
Songi Sanjeok--the mushroom skewers. :) |
Yes--You didn't see that wrong! It's the Korean kimchi fried rice that always made a special cameo in our K-dramas! |
Yulan, Joran and Gangran--The trio of traditional Korean Honeyed Crackers |
Seasoned Prawns--I love the garnish! |
With rice mixed with crunchy vegetables and doused with a generous amount of gochujang (spicy pepper sauce), bibimbap is my love! :D |
Korean Kimbap (or sushi rolls) remind me of the snack stalls at Myeongdong..... where the ajummas gave extra 'free service' (i.e. free service=free food in Korea) when you order like 5 rolls at one go. |
Who could resist having some of these hot and spicy Chonggak Kimchi? (Ponytail Radish Kimchi) |
Or is this cabbage version your bias? |
I loved the marinated grilled meat. It looks delicious! |
The Korean pancakes we see on TV, just that they were made into skewers. |
Bossam, the steamed pork. It is often served with cabbages or other vegetable wraps. |
It was quite an eye opening experience for us--we got to learn about both Hanbok and Hansik (Korean Food), all at once :)
I'm glad I had the experience, and a visit to Korea Plaza is definitely recommended to everyone! :D
