#4 [Be a Food Blogger] Create Your Taste Burger @ Kallang Mcdonald's

Who would have guess that Mcdonald's will start its new line of Create Your Taste Burgers--that allows burger lovers to customise their own creation?

Mcdonalds recently announced the launch of Create Your Taste (CYT) Burgers, which allows customers to 'tailor-make' their burgers by choosing the bun roll, vegetables, meat patty and cheese that was added in.

As this was one of the bigger steps taken by the fast food establishment in diversifying into the 'sit-in restaurant' market, I was extremely interested to try out its new venture. How would Mcdonald's fare among its fellow counterparts that offer gourmet burgers?

There were a few locations where the Create Your Taste (CYT) Burgers were available (see end of post), and to avoid crowds, I've decided to travel a little to the Mega Mcdonalds store over at Kallang Stadium :) Was rewarded with the ample amount of seats the outlet provides. I was able to find a table for me and my family (4 pax) on a Saturday evening.

Mcdonalds has also started adding various self-ordering machines to better cater to the customers' needs. I got to customise my CYT burger using the ordering machine as photographed below.

The ordering process was smooth. To order a CYT burger, one simply have to first choose a bread roll (see below):

Choice of bread roll (aka the burger bun) includes either a glazed bun, a semolina bun or simply a lettuce 'bun' for the health conscious! :) I chose the glazed bun, which looked promising (and turned up delicious too!)

The choice of meat was however limited. One could only opt for the Quarter Pounder Beef Patty. While it was assured that the beef was 100% Angus, it's truly a shame that not all people can eat beef. I once wanted to try the burger with my friends, but they were unable to try out the burger because there weren't other meat options other than beef.

The better part of buying a CYT burger is that one gets to choose many different types of greens. While we could only have one choice of bread roll and patty, we can choose many types of vegetables. Yes!--You could even opt to have all the greens available! For me, I decided on having lettuce, wild rocket leaves, red onion rings and caramelised onions.

To 'make the burger cheesy', I had a choice of cheese. As a non-cheese fanatic, I got myself a simple classic cheese.

After choosing the cheese comes adding some saucy sauce that flavours the burger. We had unlimited choices for sauces. For me, I added the BBQ sauce and Mustard.

To end off the customisation, choices of premium toppings such as grilled pineapple ring and chicken bacon were available (of course, at a price of around SGD$0.60-$1.20). I had grilled pineapple ring and grilled mushrooms, of which, in my opinion, were great complements to the burger dish.

Just in case you don't know what to put into your burger, Mcdonalds also offers some signature creations for you. :)

To complete my burger meal, I upgraded my CYT burger (SGD$8.90) to a set with small fries and a soft drink (SGD$10.95), and upgraded by soft drink to a small McCafe Mochaccino with an additional charge of SGD$1.40 . The meal was served to us (no self collection, it's all served to you!) after around 10+ minutes and the presentation was good.

The 'small Mochaccino' was larger than what I'd expected, and the fries came in a really nice steel mesh container. The burger, was placed on top of a good old chopping board. Nice. Very Nice. :)

Taste-wise, it tasted just like Mcdonalds. The fries is just what you'd expect when you buy a $5 Mcdonalds set. The burger tasted pretty Mcdonalds too, though the bun and the pineapples were a pretty new try. The quarter pounder was okay, but not fantastic. The lettuce, pineapple ring, caramelised onion rings, the red onions and mushroom were nice. But I didn't quite like wild rocket leaves (maybe that's just my personal preference). It was so-so, perhaps just on par compared to traditional gourmet burgers.

However, on the whole, I was really impressed with the appearance of the food.

[Conclusion] Will visit again because the burger and the fries looked too cute for an SGD$11set. Taste-wise, its pretty Mcdonalds. Heard Mcdonalds open a second generation store called 'Mcdonalds Next' in Hong Kong. Causing quite a stir there :D Wondered how's the food?
