[Pre-180, My SJI Days] Singing for Nepal Earthquake feat. Jackie Chan/

Jackie Chan may be an International Action Star, but to me, he's someone who gives back to the society.

Singing for Nepal. I was on the extreme right. :)
Nepal was struck with a 7.3 magnitude earthquake in April 2015. I was asked in early May 2015, by our SJI Old Boy, if I would like to sing to help raise funds for Nepal in a charity concert, which I gladly agreed.

Giving back to the society using our voice is no easy feat. Although I chose to sing My Destiny, which is a Korean song which I'm familiar with, I had to sing the song in both Korean and Mandarin to appeal to the audience. The Chinese lyrics were more complex and complicated as compared to conventional Chinese songs. So there's slight difficulty in remembering the lyrics within such a short period of time. In fact,I made some mistakes when it comes to the Chinese lyrics on my sound check at the performing venue. I had to train everyday after school from 1 May to 8 May to perfect my singing.

The performance took place at two different timing: 4pm and 7pm. Although I did not perform as well in the 4pm session, I managed to pull it off quite well in the 7pm session. It was really heartwarming to see the audience donate to the red cross during and after our performance. It really showed me how our little actions and voices can make a difference.

However, I was extremely surprised, on the event date, when I was told that an unannounced guest, Jackie Chan, will be attending the event at the evening! World Star cum Hollywood Action Star Jackie Chan arrived at the event venue in the evening after my performance, and donated SGD$100000 in wake of the earthquake. Jackie Chan's actions inspired me to do whatever we can to offer our services to people in need worldwide, and also reinforced my belief of giving back to the society.

I got to shake Jackie Chan's hand and take a group photograph with him at the end of the event. It was a memorable one. Not because of the sheer fact that I met Jackie Chan, but because he reinforced my belief in giving back to the society. :)
